Feature model -> Use case model -> Component

Hi,

I've recently learned about FDD. We are currently working on the dependency view among all the features in a feature model and have developed an user interface for feature model and dependency model.

Now the idea that I wanted to explore is to use the use case to model functional features taken from the feature model. I want to define the use case in detail, I just identify use case associated to each feature. Afterwords this idea may be used to specify component. Like this..........
Feature model -> Functional features ->Use case -> Component

My questions are: 1) Is this something that could work? 2) What should be the intermediate phases? 3) What will happen to the Non-functional features?

Thanks in advance,
Afroza

What is a feature model?

Hi Afroza,

can you explain in some detail please what your feature model is and what is in it? Then, can you explain what your dependecy model is?

Thanks,

Jeff

Feature Model->Use Case->Component

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your interest.
My previous research work was modeling dependency between features in a feature model. I did a case study of 'Order Process System'. I used a matrix-based approach to generate graphical view of feature dependency. Now I have a rough idea about my next work which is not much related to my previous work, "Modeling functional features (derived from feature model) in detail by use case". It may help to specify component in later stage. I just want your wise suggestion if it is something that could work? Please specify whatever you think about it.

Regards.

More Info

Hi Afroza,

I'm sorry but I still don't understand exactly what your feature model is or what it comprises. As I read your comment above it seems (at first) that it is just a features list and you have graphed the dependencies between features (something I never do by the way). But then you talk about modeling "functional features" that are derived from the feature model. This makes me think you are not talking about a features list after all, as the only features in a features list are functional.

Can you please try and explain in some more detail what your feature model is? Perhaps an example or fragment of it might help?

Jeff

Service of FDD

Hi Jeff,

Can you tell me how I can send you a .doc file as attachment?

Thanks.

Attach it to a new topic

You can attach a file to any new forum topic. But please don't use a .doc (a proprietary, binary, petri dish). Use a PDF instead.
