FDD Group in LinkedIn ?

JulianY's picture

I was wondering, has any body though about creating a LinkedIn group with a logo for for FDD.

For my $0.02 there should be 2 groups/logos

'FDD' for those interested in or using FDD, this should not be restricted and is intened to up the awareness of FDD

and perhaps also

'FDD Certified' for those that have received an official FDD certification. I would not worry about the level of certification at this stage.

For more information on linked in take a look at http://www.linkedin.com/static?key=groups_faq

Benefits?

No, I'd never considered it or heard a request for it before. I'm on linkedin but I barely use it; i've never filled out my profile and I only occasionally accept invitations when I've been pestered enough. So my perspective comes from a poor understanding of linkedin. What does such a group do? If people put FDD in their normal linkedin profiles - can others search on FDD and find such profiles? If so, then the only thing the group seems to offer (from a brief read of your link) is that it lets people in the group contact each other directly, without going through the normal linkedin referral scheme. Is that right or is there more to this suggestion?

it’s all about marketing

Jeff,

To be brutally honest it’s all about marketing and hopefully an opportunity to perhaps increase FDD awareness.

My understanding is that if people put FDD in their normal linkedin profiles, other people can search on FDD and see some profile details of the target person but not all. They then have to use the referral scheme to make contact. However a member of a group however can see other members directly and can bypass the referral scheme to make direct contact with other group members.

Group members benefit by having a “pretty” logo in their profile which helps them to stand out a bit.

Regards

Julian

That's ok; this isn't brutal at all. If politeness is getting in the way of honesty, then be a little less polite.

Understood, but really, this will do so very little if increased FDD awareness is the target.

Target

I would say the target was more creating means for FDD folk to find each other and to stand out from the crowd, "increased FDD awareness" would really be a fringe benefit.

+1

I use LinkedIn a fair amount (although admittedly not enough to upgrade to the fee-based version), and find it a useful way to keep in contact with both professional contacts and also when searching for others with common interests.

I agree with Julian that it's a nice way to raise visibility and connect with others who share our common interest in FDD.
